"Death of R. W. Downey, Esq.

The subject of this notice died at his residence, on Greene street, last Friday, the 18th inst., after a lingering sickness.

Robison West Downey was born in Fayette county, the 25th of August, 1814, and consequently was in the 61st year of his age. He came to Waynesburg when a young man, and was a student of law under Samuel Cleavenger. He was admitted to the practice of the profession at the conclusion of his course, and has ever since, up to his death, been a resident of the town.

Mr. Downey was one of the leading lawyers at the Waynesburg Bar, and had acquired considerable property in the practice. He was [a] man of enterprise and venture -- having built the finest hotel ever erected in the county, besides many other improvements of like character.

Mr. Downey had been gradually going down for some six months past, but in the last week of his life the change was rapid.

His funeral took place on Sunday at two o'clock, and his remains were attended to his last resting place by a very large concourse of friends and citizens."
