"A telegram was received by J. H. Elms, of this place, last week announcing the death of his brother James, which occurred at Queen City, Mo., on Monday Aug. 14, of typhoid fever. A message was received on Sunday evening informing friends here of his serious illness and his brother and sister, Harvey and Miss Lizzie Elms, left at once for his home. Upon their arrival they were shocked to learn that their brother was dead and buried. Deceased was a son of the late George Elms, of Fordyce, this county, and beside his wife and five children, leaves a mother, Mrs. Sarah Elms, now residing on Franklin street, four brothers and five sisters. The latter are J. H., G. H., Misses Annie and Lizzie Elms, Mrs. Samuel VanCleve and Mrs. John Harkins, of this place, J. Hufty Elms and Mrs. Lester Jones, of Denver, Col., and Wm. Elms, of Fordyce, Pa. James Elms had formerly lived here but had resided in Missouri thirteen years. He was 42 years of age and a very highly respected, industrious citizen. His death will be learned with sadness by numerous friends in this county. His wife and two oldest children are ill with fever, the former not being expected to live. She was not able to understand that her husband had died."
