BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF JOHN SLAYTER BUCHANAN

John Slayter Buchanan was born 27 May 1897 in Unionport, Wayne Township, Jefferson County, Ohio, the son of Philip Swart Buchanan [1851-1927] and his wife, Jennie A. Lewis [1861-1942], natives of Greene County, Pennsylvania. He was united in marriage with Mary Hazel (Orr) Baker [1896-1964] on 19 January 1919. Together they raised two sons, Donald William Buchanan [1920-2007] and Robert Paul Buchanan.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The John Slayter Buchanan Collection photographs feature the descendants of Philip Swart Buchanan [1851-1927] and his wife, Jennie A. Lewis [1861-1942], who moved from Greene County, Pennsylvania to Jefferson County, Ohio in 1883. The photographs were passed from John Slayter Buchanan [1897-1973] and his wife, Mary Hazel Orr [1896-1964], to their sons, Donald William Buchanan [1920-2007] and Robert Paul Buchanan, who owned and shared the photographs with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Photo Archives Project in 2005.

The collection was initially arranged by family; however, additional photos continue to be added to the end of the collection as they are shared for scanning. For best results, use the BUCJ Collection Index to look for specific individuals or subjects.
