BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF HELEN MAE (JACOBS) FONNER

Helen Mae (Jacobs) Fonner was born 17 January 1922 in Greene County, Pennsylvania, the youngest of twelve children born to Joseph Warren Jacobs and Mary Emma (Dulaney) Jacobs. She was married to Henry B. Fonner.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The Helen Mae (Jacobs) Fonner Collection is a family photograph collection. The earliest photographs date to the Civil War era (distinguished by tax stamps that were used between 1 August 1864 and 1 March 1865) and follow the family through three generations into the 1920s. The collection contains carte-de-visites, tintypes and cabinet cards among others. Several turn of the century funeral cards placed within family photograph albums are also included. The collection has been divided into two series: Jacobs-Kent (Helen’s paternal relatives and immediate family) and Dulaney-Silveus (Helen’s maternal relatives).

The series were initially arranged by family; however, additional photos continue to be added to the end of the series as they are shared for scanning. Consequently, it is best to use the JACB Collection Index to look for specific individuals or subjects.

*The Jacobs-Kent Series (Catalogue Code: AN001) probably began with Eleanor Ann (Kent) Jacobs [1832-1902], wife of Henry Moore Jacobs, and daughter of David Kent and Elizabeth Barnes. Eleanor's photographs were passed to her son Joseph Warren Jacobs [1868-1947] to his daughter Helen Mae (Jacobs) Fonner [1922-1999] to her daughter Anna (Fonner) Blystone who with her husband, George Blystone, owned and shared the photographs with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Photo Archives Project in 2005. Each generation added to the collection with photographs from their own family and in-laws. Unique photographs of Greene County, Pennsylvania locations and events are also included in this series. Most notably a view of Waynesburg, dated 1875 (Item # JACB_AN001_0001).

*The Dulaney-Silveus Series (Catalogue Code: AN002) probably began with Martha Maria (Silveus) Dulaney [1860-1932], wife of Jasper Dulaney, and daughter of William Silveus & Mary Campbell Mildred. Martha's photographs were passed to her daughter Mary Emma (Dulaney) Jacobs [1878-1958], to her daughter Helen Mae (Jacobs) Fonner [1922-1999] to her daughter Anna (Fonner) Blystone who with her husband, George Blystone, owned and shared the photographs with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Photo Archives Project in 2005. Each generation added to the collection with photographs from their own family and in-laws.
