John Robert "Bob" Rice was born 2 August 1923 in Greene County, Pennsylvania, the son of John Lockwood Rice [1886-1964] and his wife, Mary Irene Phillips [1887-1959]. On 19 May 1951, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Dye [1918-1996].

The John Robert Rice Collection photographs feature family and community images from the area of Gilmore Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania. The Rice-Fordyce Series, in particular, includes photographs of extended family who left the Greene County area as well.

The collection has been divided into three series: Rice-Fordyce, Dye-Edgar, and Community based on family and subject content. The series have been further divided into subseries to maintain original order among photo albums, and to best organize loose photographs according to family and/or chronological order. Additional photos continue to be added to the end of the series as they are shared for scanning. For best results, use the RICE Collection Index to look for specific individuals or subjects.

* The Rice-Fordyce Series (Catalogue Code: AN001) photographs were passed from Joshua Rice [1840-1896] and his wife, Henrietta Fordyce [1846-1920], to their son John Lockwood Rice [1886-1964] and his wife, Mary Irene Phillips [1887-1959], to their son John Robert Rice who owned and shared the photographs with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Photo Archives Project in 2006.

* The Dye-Edgar Series (Catalogue Code: AN002) photographs were passed from Frank Dye [1880-1948] and his first wife, Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie" Edgar [1892-1919], to their daughter Elizabeth Dye [1918-1996] and her husband, John Robert Rice, who owned and shared the photographs with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Photo Archives Project in 2006.
