BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF KATHERINE JANE (THROCKMORTON) TOOTHMAN

Katherine Jane (Throckmorton) Toothman was born in Waynesburg, Greene County, Pennsylvania on 31 December 1919 to Robert Lawrence Throckmorton, Sr. and Ella May Watson. She was united in marriage on 3 April 1942 with Glenn Jacob Roy Thronton Toothman, Jr. Glenn was a native of Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia where he was born 9 August 1920 to Glenn Jacob Roy Thornton Toothman, Sr. and Elsie Huffman Rees.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The Katherine Jane (Throckmorton) Toothman Collection is a family photograph collection featuring relatives and friends from her own as well as her husband’s extended family. The earliest photographs date to the 1850s and proceed to follow the families through several generations into the 1960s. The collection contains one ambrotype and a variety of carte-de-visites, tintypes and cabinet cards, among others. Several turn of the century funeral cards placed among family photographs are also included. The collection has been divided into three series: Throckmorton-McGlumphy (Katherine’s paternal relatives and immediate family), Watson-Anderson (Katherine’s maternal relatives), Toothman-Hoult (Katherine’s in-laws).

The series were initially arranged by family; however, additional photos continue to be added to the end of the series as they are shared for scanning. For best results, use the TOOK Collection Index to look for specific individuals or subjects.

*The Throckmorton-McGlumphy Series (Catalogue Code: AN001) photographs were most likely passed from William Harvey Throckmorton [1850-1921] and his wife, Lucy Jane McGlumphy [1861-1933] to their son Robert Lawrence Throckmorton, Sr. [1889-1964] and his wife, Ella May Watson [1893-1988] to their daughter, Katherine Jane (Throckmorton) Toothman who owned and shared the photographs with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Photo Archives Project in 2006.

Also in this series are five photographs given to Katherine Jane (Throckmorton) Toothman by Nancy Laureanne (Throckmorton) Meighen [1899-1994] - wife of Charles Patrick Meighen [1895-1980], daughter of Thomas Morford Throckmorton [1858-1925] & Anne Webster [1867-1932]. *The Watson-Anderson Series (Catalogue Code: AN002) photographs were most likely passed from Robert Watson [1847-1942] and his wife, Catharine Anderson [1848-1933] to their daughter Ella May (Watson) Throckmorton [1893-1988] and her husband, Robert Lawrence Throckmorton, Sr. [1889-1964] to their daughter, Katherine Jane (Throckmorton) Toothman who owned and shared the photographs with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Photo Archives Project in 2006.

*The Toothman-Hoult Series (Catalogue Code: AN003) probably began with Martha Jane (Hoult) Toothman [1850-1931], wife of Thornton Jacob Toothman [1847-1896], and daughter of John Cunningham Hoult & Susanna Bare. Martha’s photographs likely passed to her daughter, Margaret Lee (Toothman) Wilson [1882-1970] and her husband, Fred Martin Wilson [1877-1967], who never had children and consequently passed the photographs to Margaret’s grandnephew Glenn Jacob Roy Thronton Toothman, Jr. [1920-2001] and his wife, Katherine Jane (Throckmorton) Toothman who owned and shared the photographs with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Photo Archives Project in 2005. Each generation added to the collection with photographs from their own family and in-laws. This series has been further divided into two subseries: Varied Photographs (photographs that had no original order) and Album 1 (arranged contents of a late nineteenth century photograph album).
