BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF ELWOOD GARRET WATSON

Elwood Garret Watson, Sr. was born 24 March 1892 in Washington Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania. He was the second of five children born to David Daniel Watson and his second wife, Eliza Garret. The four surviving children of this marriage were orphaned after the deaths of their father and mother in 1898 and 1902, respectively. Elwood and his two younger brothers were sent to Scotland School for Veterans Children in Scotland, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Elwood moved to Allegheny County, Pennsylvania after his graduation and worked for a telegraph company. By the 1920 Census, he had reunited his siblings with him under one roof in Pittsburgh. On 28 October 1922, Elwood married Norah Dotchin with whom he raised two sons, Elwood Garret Watson, Jr. and Ronald Wells Watson. Elwood passed away on 26 July 1965 in Pittsburgh.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The Elwood Garret Watson Collection is a family photograph collection. The earliest photographs date to the 1880s and proceed to follow the family through several generations into the 1950s. The photographs were passed from David Daniel Watson [1837-1898] and his second wife, Eliza Garret [1857-1902] to their son Elwood Garret Watson, Sr. [1892-1965] and his wife, Norah Dotchin [1897-1991] to their son Elwood Garret Watson, Jr. who with his son Elwood Garret Watson, III, owned and shared the photographs with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Photo Archives Project in 2007. Each generation added to the collection with photographs from their own family and in-laws.
