"Mary Jennings Pauley, wife of W. T. H. Pauley, died at her home in this place Friday evening Sep. 2nd, 1887, aged 60 years. Deceased had been in poor health for some time past, but her demise was quite unexpected, she not being considered at any time in a dangerous condition previous to the day of her death. About noon Friday she was suddenly taken very ill. Medical aid was summoned but she grew rapidly worse; it was not, however, until evening that she was seen to be beyond recovery. She expired at 11:30 p. m. She had been for years a member of the C. P. church, and was a kind-hearted, noble woman. A bereaved husband and four children survive her. The children are James J. and John Pauley, of this place, Benj. Pauley, of Morgan township, and Mrs. Isaac Bell, of Jefferson township. She was also a sister of Col. James S. Jennings, this place, John F. Jennings, Esq., of Allegheny City, Pa., Benjamin Jennings, of Des Moines, Iowa and Mrs. Esther Cree, of --------, Iowa. The funeral took place at 2 p. m., Sabbath. Services were conducted by Rev. D. E. Bushnell, D. D., after which the remains, followed by a large funeral cortege, were borne to Green Mount Cemetery where they were lain to rest." |
