Saturday, August 17, 1957, at her home 311 North West street, after an illness of several months. A lifelong resident of Greene County, she was born December 24, 1864, at Jefferson, a daughter of John G. and Catherine Grim Kendall and lived most of her life in Waynesburg. She was married November 2, 1891 to Carhart H. Bowlby, prominent livestock broker and businessman, who died in 1937. The Waynesburg Children's Library was one of her favorite charities and she was a liberal contributor to the activities of the Women's Society of Christian Service of the Methodist Church. She contributed generously to many foreign missions of the Methodist Church throughout the world. She had been president of the Pleasant Hour Club of Waynesburg for 50 years and was an organizer and past president of the Waynesburg W. C. T. U. She was also a member of the Polly Wayne Garden Club of Waynesburg. She is survived by one daughter, Dorothy, wife of Ray Connor; one granddaughter, Jane, wife of Floyd Wiseman, Rutherford Acres, Pittsburgh, and twin great-granddaughters." |
