SOURCE: Malinda Thompson obituary, Waynesburg Republican, Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, 22 December 1892, page 1, column 4. (Transcribed by Candice Buchanan.)
"Malinda, wife of David Thompson, died at her home in Oak Forest, Wednesday, Dec. 14, 1892, of heart disease. Mrs. Thompson was a daughter of David and Elizabeth Kent, and the eldest of a family of twelve children, seven of whom are living, three brothers, John, Wm. T. and Spencer Kent, and four sisters, Mrs. W. J. Bryan, Mrs. H. M. Jacobs, Mrs. Thos. Bell and Mrs. Lindsey Thomas, all of whom reside in this county. She was married Oct. 16, 1855, to David Thompson, of Oak Forest. Her husband and six children survive to mourn her loss, two of whom Marion and David, reside in Oak Forest, and three other sons, William, W. J. and James and a daughter, Nora, live in different parts of the west. Mrs. Thompson was a consistent member of the M. P. church, having made a confession at the Laurel Run meeting house early in life. Death came to her sudden and without a word of warning, giving her no time for pain or grief at parting from the loved ones; no sad farewell. She spent her last evening with her husband and son and her last words were those of tender and loving interest for her family. The funeral took place the following Sunday, a large concourse of sorrowing friends following the remains to their last resting place in Green Mount Cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. C. P. Jordan." |
