Kent, a well known and highly respected citizen, died at his home on South Morgan street, Saturday morning, June 14, at 10:30 o'clock, aged 77 years. He had been ill the past eighteen months of hardening of the arteries and his death was not unexpected. Mr. Kent was a son of Mr. and Mrs. David Kent, deceased, and was born in Franklin township, where he resided until he removed to Waynesburg fourteen years ago. He had followed farming and stock raising and was quite successful. After coming to Waynesburg he engaged in the real estate and coal business. He was a member of the First Christian church of Waynesburg and was an elder in the church. He was twice married. His first wife, Elizabeth Jacobs, died in 1885. To this union were born the following children: Mrs. Frank Tharp, Mrs. M. B. Finch, Mrs. Edward Finch, Mrs. Nannie Brooks, Mrs. Lon Bell, Mrs. John Simington and L. V. Kent, all of Waynesburg, and Mrs. Jesse Wood, of Rogersville, R. D. 1. In 1909 he was united in marriage with Carrie R. Augustine, who survives. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. M. G. Smith. Interment in Green Mount cemetery." |
