"D. Vernon Kent, a well known citizen, died in the Waynesburg hospital, Friday, January 31, aged 61 years. He had been in failing health for several months and his death was the result of complications. Mr. Kent was a son of Spencer B. and Elizabeth Jacobs Kent, deceased, and was born in Franklin township and had spent his entire life in the county. He was never married. Mr. Kent was a member of the Waynesburg Christian Church. Several years ago he had served as a member of Company K, 10th Regiment, N. G. P. The following sisters survive: Mrs. Frank Tharp, Kirby; Mrs. Jesse Wood, Ruff Creek; Mrs. E. S. Finch, San Diego, Cal.; Mrs. Nannie K. Lewis, Florida; Mrs. May K. Finch and Mrs. John Simington, Waynesburg, and Mrs. A. R. Bell, Washington, R. D. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, in the home of his sister, Mrs. John Simington, West Lincoln street, conducted by Rev. F. S. Dowdy. Interment in Green Mount cemetery."
