"Death Claims Well Known Business Man

Jesse L. Ross, Prominent Waynesburg Druggist Passes Away After Two Years' Illness.

Jesse L. Ross, aged 68 years, well known Waynesburg druggist, died at his home, Rossland, four miles north of Waynesburg on the Waynesburg-Washington highway, Thursday morning, November 3, after a two years' illness.

Mr. Ross was born July 7, 1864, a son of Dr. Timothy W. Ross and Mary Zimmerman Ross, deceased, and had spent his entire life in Waynesburg and vicinity. When a young man Mr. Ross studied pharmacy and had conducted a drug store in Waynesburg for nearly fifty years. He was head of the firm of the Jesse L. Ross & Company, druggists. During his long business career Mr. Ross made many friends and probably was more widely known than any other person in Greene county. He was president of the Waynesburg Home Gas Company and organized the Security Building and Loan Association. For many years he was active in the buying and selling of horses and was the owner of several race horses. He was intimately known among the horsemen of the Tri-State area. For the past twenty-eight years Mr. Rose had resided in Franklin township; for 15 years of that time he lived on a farm northwest of Waynesburg and later removed to the farm on the Washington road. He was a member of the St. Anne Catholic church, of Waynesburg, and of the Sons of Veterans organization.

Mr. Ross was the last member of his family. Beside his wife, Mrs. Mary Donahoo Ross he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Jane Reed, wife of W. K. Reed; Mrs. Helen R. Furman, wife of Roy E. Furman, and a son, John Ross, all of Waynesburg. There are six grandchildren. The funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, in the St. Anne Catholic church, conducted by Rev. Father George Angel. Interment in the St. Anne cemetery."
