SOURCE: Ezra M. Sayers Jr. obituary, Waynesburg Republican, Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, 18 March 1884, page 3, column 5. (Transcribed by Donna (Leasure) Buchanan.)

"Ezra M. Sayers, Jr., youngest son of Henry C. and Clementine R. Sayers, died Saturday morning at 5 o’clock, A.M. aged 10 years. This was a bright, intelligent boy - a great favorite of the family and giving promise of a superior manhood. His malady, consumption of the bowels, was incurable, and he was brave and patient as the disease slowly consumed him. Consciousness did not forsake him until the last, and when death came he no doubt heard the dip of the golden oars as he crossed with the boatman old and pale.

'God’s hand is on the helm, so be thou still. Thou cans’t not see Him, for thine eyes are dim. But wait in patience - put thy trust in Him Give thanks for love, and leave thee to His will.'"
