"Samuel O. VanCleve, aged 81, well known Waynesburg resident and member of the firm operating the Elms Brothers Machine Shops in East Greene street, died last night, April 28, 1941, at 11: 45 o'clock at his home on Montgomery avenue.

Mr. VanCleve had been in his usual health until yesterday morning when he suffered a heart attack.

A son of the late John Hunter and Ursella Throckmorton VanCleve, he was born January 30, 1860, in Franklin Township and with the exception of a few years spent in Kansas he was a lifelong resident of Waynesburg. Mr. VanCleve was one of the organizers of the Elms Brothers Machine Shops and remained a member of the firm until his death. He was a member of the Episcopal Church and fraternally was affiliated with Waynesburg Lodge No. 153, F. & A. M., and the Pittsburgh Consistory.

Mr. VanCleve was united in marriage with Frances Elms, who survives with three sons: Richard E. and J. Edward VanCleve, of Waynesburg, and Samuel H. VanCleve, of Philadelphia. He also leaves eight grandchildren and two brothers: James VanCleve, of Washington, Pa., and Joseph VanCleve, of Portersville, Pa.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete this morning, but friends will be received at the VanCleve residence after 5 p. m. today. Funeral arrangements are in charge of Hoge & Garrison, funeral directors."
