My dear Mrs. Tubbs

Mr. H. V. Needham has just written me quite a fine
letter concerning the life of your mother who was Marg­
aret Needham of the class of 1857. We are anxious to se­
cure as many facts and mementos of her as we can since
it has deve1oped that she was the first woman to gradu­
ate from this institution from the same course as the
men and with the same degree. This is all the more im­
portant since this college was the second college in the
world to grant degrees to women on the same basis as men.

I am anxious to have the loan of a picture of her
taken about her graduation time or as near as possible
that time. Also, if you happen to have a copy of her
graduation program I should be pleased to have a copy of
it.  In any case, I will return these unharmed after
having made copies. Do you have her diploma?  Did she
receive the A.B. or B.S. degree?  If you have her di­
ploma and would be so kind this college would appreciate
very much having it to frame and exhibit in our "Memory
Room”.
