"Mrs. Mary J. McNay, aged 84 years, widow of Samuel McNay, died at her home on North West street, Tuesday morning, April 25, at 8:30 o'clock. Her death followed a two weeks' illness due to infirmities of age. Mrs. McNay was born March 6, 1849, near Fredericktown, and was a daughter of Rev. Jesse Adams and Jane Kerr Adams. She was a graduate of Waynesburg College, class of 1871. In 1882, she was united in marriage with Samuel McNay, whose death occurred in 1899. She had resided in or near Waynesburg since 1867. Mrs. McNay was a devout member of the First Presbyterian church. She was always interested in education and although left a widow when her children were small she succeeded in giving them all a college education. The four children are all graduates of Waynesburg College, and two of them have been teachers, and one is now librarian in the college. The children surviving are Mrs. Mark G. Inghram, of Olivet, Mich.; Mrs. Jessie A. Orndoff, Mrs. Leishman Jamison and S. Ewing McNay, of Waynesburg. Two brothers, Attorney J. B. Adams, of Uniontown, and Jesse H. Adams, of Waynesburg, R. D. 6, also survive. The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. George S. Maxwell. Interment in Green Mount cemetery."
