SOURCE: Nantie Ryan obituary, Waynesburg Republican, Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, 7 July 1880, page 3, column 4.
"In Memory of Mrs. Nantie Ryan Out into the mysterious unknown eternity, beyond the river of death, has passed our sister whom we all loved and delighted to honor. Again has been verified the sad old proverb, "Death likes a shining mark." The Master had need of her and gently called her home. We always found her true, and a higher tribute no one need wish to have bestowed. She was welcomed everywhere and her sweet, sunny disposition diffused a glow of cheerfulness all around. More especially was her beautiful character seen and appreciated in the home circle. She was a most obedient daughter, a loving sister, and best of all, her's was a beautiful consistent christian life. The high and responsible station in which she moved as a minister's wife, she graced with Christian dignity. And of all the bereaved ones her husband has the greatest need of sympathy. 'Tis he whose home is broken. The sunny smile that always beamed upon him, and the fond and cheering voice that always greeted his return, are silenced now in death. Truly he can say, 'the life and the light gone out;' but only in a certain sense, for a life so fraught with words of kindness and beautiful deeds can never die. And amid the heartache and grievous desolation that brood over the bereaved, arises like sweet incense the blessed consolation, of the prayer of Jesus, 'Father, I will say that they whom thou hast given me shall be with me, that where I am there they may be also.' 'Dear as thou art and justly dear,
KATE."
