SOURCE: Andrew A. Purman obituary, Waynesburg College Bulletin, Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, April 1943, page 5, column 1.
"Andrew A. Purman '95 died suddenly Friday, January 1, 1943. He was a son of Andrew A. and Mary Russell Purman and was born October 4, 1872. Following his graduation in 1895, Mr. Purman read law in the office of his father and began practice with him and his brother, James J. Purman, until 1902. In that year he opened his own office and continued to practice until his death. He served as Burgess of Waynesburg from 1902 to 1917 and was a member of the School Board at the time of the erection of the Margaret Bell Miller High School building. He was greatly interested in this building and gave abundantly of his time to the project. Many of the excellent facilities of the high school are due to the care of Mr. Purman. In Waynesburg College he was a baseball star and always maintained his interest in that sport. He was united in marriage with Edith Conkle Baily, who survives. One brother, Dr. John Purman, of Pittsburgh, and two sisters, Mrs. Lide P. Williams, of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Elizabeth Gabler, of Pittsburgh, also survive. He rests in the Green Mount Cemetery, Waynesburg, Pa." |
