Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, April 1946, page 3, column 3.

"Henry Clay Sayers, well-known Waynesburg lawyer and member of one of the county's pioneer families, died at his West Wayne Street home, Saturday night, December 15, 1945, after an illness of only 24 hours. Mr. Sayers had not been in the best of health for some time, but had been able to be at his law office as usual and was down town Friday evening. He was taken ill after returning home with a severe attack of influenza. A lifelong resident of Waynesburg, he was born July 31, 1872, a son of the late Henry C. and Clementine Rush Sayers. He attended the public schools here and Waynesburg College, graduating with the class of 1895. He studied law in the office of his grandfather, E. M. Sayers, one of Waynesburg's early attorneys, and was admitted to the Greene County Bar in 1898. He had practiced law here ever since and was the second oldest member of the Greene County Bar. He also was a member of the bar of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and of the United States Supreme Court. He had been active in banking circles for several years, having been one of the founders of the old American National Bank, and for several years had been a director of the Union National Bank. He also was actively interested in the oil and gas business as wells as in livestock and farming. Mr. Sayers was one of the oldest members of Waynesburg Lodge 757, B. P. O. Elks and took an active interest in the lodge affairs. He was married December 4, 1895 to Frances Scott, of Waynesburg, who survives. He also leaves the following children: Mrs. J. Russell Milliken, Waynesburg; Edwin H. Sayers, Harrisburg; Frank S. Sayers, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Maxwell Gaylord, Clarksburg, W. Va.; and Capt. William H. Sayers, of the United States Army, on special assignment in India."
