"At Age 83 Mrs. Dessie Stewart, Prexie's Wife, Dies

Mrs. Dessie Rush Stewart, wife of Waynesburg College Chancellor Dr. Paul R. Stewart, died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Greene County Memorial Hospital after being seriously ill for the past several weeks.

She was born September 3, 1885, at Spraggs to the late Jesse and Harriett Knight Rush. She was married August 24, 1910 to Dr. Paul Stewart, who survives. She was a graduate of Waynesburg College in 1909 and later taught school in Wayne Township.

Mrs. Stewart was one of the founders and past-president of the Mother's Study Club; a past president of the Greene County Federation of Women's Clubs; a member of the Library Club and the Waynesburg Women's Club. She was also active in the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle.

Mrs. Stewart founded the Women's Faculty Club of Waynesburg College and was very active in the organization when health permitted.

She and her parents were members of the Pursley Baptist Church at Oak Forest.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Schenley, of Waynesburg; three grandchildren, Mrs. Katherine Maulfair, of Mentor, Ohio; Linda and Barbara Stewart, both of Denver, Colo. and a brother, Floyd Rush, of Waynesburg.

A son, Dr. Walter Alan Stewart was killed in a plane crash several years ago."
