Helen passed away on 28 December 2004. She was a daughter of Earl E. Church & Daisy (Hull) Church, and shared photos of this family. She was a wonderful lady to visit and talk to and a dear friend to my grandmother, Sara (Livingood) Buchanan. Helen's obituary appeared in the Observer-Reporter of Washington & Greene Counties, Pennsylvania, 30 December 2004. "Helen Church Clayton Greene County Memorial Hospital admissions officer Helen Church Clayton, 92, of Waynesburg, died at 8:25 p.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2004, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg. She was born September 23, 1912, in Rogersville, a daughter of Earl E. and Daisy Hull Church. Mrs. Clayton spent her early life in Rogersville before moving to the Lippencott and Ruff Creek area. She was the oldest member of Jefferson Baptist Church in Jefferson and a member of Christian Class Circle. She was a former member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Ruff Creek, where she served as treasurer and on the deaconate board for many years. Mrs. Clayton was a 1930 graduate of Waynesburg High School and a charter member and graduate of Penn Commercial College in Washington. She worked as admissions officer at Greene County Memorial Hospital for 23 years, retiring in 1977. She was the voice for admissions and discharges in the early 1970s. She also was a member of the hospital auxiliary and on the auxiliary board of directors. Mrs. Clayton was a member of Morgan Township Farm Women, Jefferson Senior Citizens, AARP and Emerald Chapter, Order of Eastern Star 135. She was a homemaker who enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family. On June 5, 1935, she married Arthur R. Clayton, who died October 2, 1984. Surviving are a daughter, Sonja C. Ball of Waynesburg; a son, James A. Clayton of Waynesburg; six grandchildren, Joyce Clayton Dursa, Jason E. Clayton, Brian, Randy Alan and April Ann Ball and Tamara Grash; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, James M. Church of Washington. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 31, with the Rev. John R. Dorean officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township. Memorials may be made to Greene County Memorial Hospital, 350 Bonar Avenue, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
