(Biographical Information / Research Interests): William’s father, Clarence Lee Richard Porter, attended the East Waynesburg School, and graduated from Waynesburg High School, played on the high school football team (we have a 1913 photo of that team), enlisted into the army on Sept. 5, 1918. He graduated from Pennsylvania State College on June 13, 1922 with a BS in Horticulture. He belonged to Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. He received his Master of Arts degree from University of Michigan on September 10, 1930. He attended the Univ. of Michigan Biological Camp in Cheboygan, Michigan, where he met his wife, Leah Susan Decker, who was a Biology teacher too. Clarence was teaching at Northeastern High School in Detroit, Michigan when they married (January, 1934) so they settled in Detroit. They had 2 sons, William David [1935-] and John Richard [1943-]. |
