Connections
(Biographical Information / Research Interests): The beginning: One sunny day in the early spring of 2004 I walked past Daniel McFarland Walton’s head stone in our Forest Cemetery as I had done many times before while tending the graves. As I casually glanced at the dates on the stone it suddenly struck me that 2004 was the 100th anniversary of his death. Daniel was a remarkable business man with deep religious beliefs nurtured in his youth in Greene County , PA. To make a long story short, a eulogy and prayer were read at a graveside service our family held in Daniel’s honor at the hour of his burial 100 years before. I thought I should find out more about our family and carry forward the genealogy work started by my great uncle, Sam Walton. I managed to fairly quickly document our Walton family line back to Amos Walton, buried in the North Ten Mile Baptist Church (old) Cemetery, Amity, PA. But the real impact was to be in the side trip I took into the importance of religion in the early frontier life of early Pennsylvanians. It literally changed my life. Were it not for that mysterious revelation in Forest Cemetery April 2004, I would have missed it all. |
